Joe Torre’s Daughter Speaks Out About Catching Falling Baby

Joe Torre’s daughter has taken over the web after it was reported that she caught a baby that was falling from a second-story apartment in Brooklyn, New York on Wednesday morning. It’s now safe to say that Joe Torre, a New York Yankees’ legend, is no longer the only catcher in the family.

“I quickly got up and looked, and there was a baby kind of straddling the fire escape between the second and the third floor,” she told NBC 4 New York about the incident. “All of a sudden it slipped, and it was dangling and holding on with its hands.”

According to the report, Cristina Torre was having a coffee in a cupcake shop near the apartment building when she sprung into action. She said a man was yelling for someone to call 911, which she did before moving into position for the catch.

The parents of the child are now being charged due to the incident, but they have Joe Torre’s daughter to thank for saving the life of their baby.

“I was still talking to 911 and I just put out my arms, and literally, it was effortless,” she added. “It was meant to be. He landed in my arms.”

The news of the heroic catch quickly made its way around New York City and eventually into mainstream media throughout the world. Her father Joe Torre was obviously one of the first to hear of her daughter’s amazing efforts during such a shocking incident and he even spoke about his daughter while visiting his old stomping grounds at Yankee Stadium.

“The kids are our future and when you get a situation where the good Lord puts you in a position where you’re there, and a child’s life is in your hands, literally…It feels good to me,” Joe Torre told NBC. “I know it did to her.”

Cristina Torre hopes that parents will “learn from this” terrifying incident that almost cost the life of a child. Do you believe Joe Torre’s daughter made one of the most miraculous catches of all-time?
