Three New Liligers Born In Novosibirsk Zoo


Liligers are a very rare hybrid of the big cat family, and the Novosibirsk Zoo in Russia is the home to three new babies!

Ligers are a hybrid mix of a lion and a tiger. So then what are liligers? They are an even rarer mix between a male lion and a female liger.

One year ago, reports had claimed that the world’s first liliger was born in the Novosibirsk Zoo.

All three liliger born in this new litter are all female, and all adorable according to the Huffington Post.

They were born in May, and have finally grown big enough to go on display.

Rare animals seem to be making their rounds in the news lately, what with the two-faced kitten and the rare blue lobster both making news.

The baby liligers had been quarantined for the first few weeks of their lives in order to make sure they were growing at a healthy rate and where overall healthy little balls of fur.

Now that they have been given the okay, the little liligers are now clumsily discovering their new surroundings in their new enclosure.

The first baby liliger born at the zoo last year was named Kiara, who can be seen in the video clip below.

At the time of her official announcement to the world, Sky News reported that Kiara’s mother, Zita the liger, wasn’t able to provide milk for the kitten so a domestic cat at the zoo stepped in to nurse the baby liliger.

There is a common misconception that ligers cannot reproduce, but that isn’t true.

Male ligers are in fact sterile, therefore they cannot reproduce. Female ligers on the other hand are not sterile, so they do have the ability to reproduce.

The Novosibirsk Zoo in Russia has a very unique family of rare liligers, and yes, they are extremely rare, and they are extremely adorable!
