iPhone details free case program, adds app

Waited in a long-ass line for the new iPhone only to find that you can’t use it to make or receive phone calls due to the sucky antenna engineering? There’s an app for that.

Apple posted details of their free case program today, including lead times, how distribution will work and the release of an app for customers to select and order their free case or bumper for iPhone 4. In addition to the iPhone 4 bumper, the program includes the Belkin Shield Micra, Griffin Motif, Griffin Reveal, Incase Snap Case, Speck Fitted and Speck PixelSkin HD.

Information on Apple’s page about the program was pretty concise:

Get an iPhone case or bumper at no charge:

Follow these steps to apply for a Bumper or case.

  1. Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store.
  2. Launch the app on your iPhone 4 and sign in using your iTunes Store account or Apple ID.
  3. Select your Bumper or case.

For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010.

Apple also says that they’ve refunded the purchase price of bumpers and cases to iPhone 4 users who purchased the accessories on a credit card. If you used cash, you have until September 30th to drag your ass into an Apple store and get a refund, which requires pants. Customers who used a gift card are apparently being sent a new gift card automagically, but if you bought a case at an AT&T store, it’s a bit more complicated. In that instance, you have to fill out a rebate coupon and will receive a refund when Apple processes your claim.

Happy now, everyone?
