Twitter out to grab the worm – @earlybird is launched

We first heard about a new official Twitter account called @earlybird a few weeks ago. The idea is very much like what Dell has been doing on Twitter for sometime – offering special deals on products via a dedicated Twitter account.

I guess Twitter saw the dollar figures that Dell was turning over (somewhere around the $2M mark or more) and figure that even a slice of that kind of money would be a nice addition to their coffers.

Well it seems, according to a post just up on the official Twitter blog that @earlybird is finally ready to take flight:

Today, we’re excited to launch the first @earlybird Exclusive Offer, in partnership with The Walt Disney Studios. For a limited time, @earlybird followers in the U.S. can get a special deal on tickets for “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” a new feature film from Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films that opens in theaters today.

We’re just getting started– we’ve got an amazing lineup of deals to share in the coming days and weeks with people following @earlybird. Several times a week, @earlybird will help consumers discover Twitter-exclusive deals in entertainment, fashion, technology, beauty, travel and more. These deals will come directly from our advertising partners and from other companies (including Groupon and Gilt Groupe) that already deliver valuable deals to consumers via Twitter. Following @earlybird is the only way to make sure you don’t miss out.
