[Video] Seattle cop punches teen girl in the face, video goes viral

Seattle police have been investigating an incident that they say is an “assault on an officer” after the clip below of an unnamed cop punching a 17-year-old girl in the face became popular on YouTube.

Police say no one was injured during the fracas, and that the incident escalated when the girl attempted to flee:

The girl then “began to tense up her arm, and pull away from the officer while yelling at him,” investigators said. The officer told the girl to place her hands on his patrol car, but she refused. When the officer tried to grab hold of her, “she pulled away and twisted, breaking free of the officer’s grip several times,” the blotter report said.

When the officer tried to handcuff the girl, another girl, this one 17 years old, intervened and placed her hands on the officer’s arm, “causing the officer to believe she was attempting to physically affect the first subject’s escape,” police said.

The officer pushed back the second girl, but the girl came back at him. The officer then punched her, police said.

Both teens in the video were cited for jaywalking, and police say there will be a “thorough investigation into this incident.”

    First off I am a black male. The force that the officer used under the circumstances was justified. Police are here to uphold and ENFORCE the law for your safety and the safety of those around you. The first thing you have to do is step back and ask yourself, “What would I have done if I were that police officer and I had only a few seconds to react to immediately diffuse this situation before it got out of control?” He had 2 people fighting with him, and a weapon to protect with bystanders within close proximity. Do this before you go spouting off racial dicrimination! racial discrimination. There was nothing racially discriminating about the incident. The NAACP, media, and legislators stepped in and turned it into a discriminating issue, and they should be both ashamed and held 100% accountable for their misleading accusations. The officer tried to talk first, the women wouldn’t stop to listen, and one decided to push and fight with the officer. When an officer has to tell you something, you shut your @$%! mouth, bite your tongue, or whatever you have to do, and you listen up. You may not want to hear what he has to tell you, but guaranteed, 9 times out of 10, it is for your own good and the safety of others around you. But hey, if you want to go around like some delinquent and fight with authority like the police, you deserve to get your face popped. You better be glad he/she don’t pop you with their gun instead.

    What a couple of dumbass girls. If all they did was jaywalk, then just shut up and put your hands on the car like the cop is saying. What exactly did they think was gonna happen when they started screaming at him, pushing, shoving, and trying to break his grip? NO SH*T he was going to use force. That girl is lucky all he did was punch her in the face; dude could have pulled out a taser. I’m not exactly a huge fan of the police, but I’m not retarded enough to try and force my way out of getting arrested. And for whoever was videotaping, I certainly hope he was asking “Are you serious?” to the stupid girl who thought it would be a genius move to put her hands on the cop and physically intervene on her friend’s behalf. Somebody give that girl a Darwin Award!
