Verizon Wireless Wants Rural LTE Partners
Verizon Wireless sees the future in LTE and that future includes all areas of the country, including rural areas. However, even the nations largest wireless carrier needs a little bit of help and they are calling on rural area partners to fill in gaps in their plans.
Verizon plans to build their new 4G network by collaborating with rural carriers, using the tower and backhaul capabilities of those carriers and Verizon’s 700MHz spectrum LTE capabilities.
Verizon is also willing to work with non-carrier providers who want to build up a 4G network throughout rural locations.
Verizon plans to cover 30 major markets by the end of 2010 with other areas, including rural areas covered by 2012. [Via Verizon Wireless]

Verizon is also looking to strike data roaming deals with the carriers. No deals have been announced so far. The concept of such a close collaboration between small and large carriers sounds promising.
