Facebook Chat Taken Down After Privacy Exploit Discovered

Facebook Chat this morning is not running after a feature on the chat was disabled, exposing Facebook users to a security bug which allowed other users to access users accounts, view their friends’ live chats, see their friends requests and see what friends they have in common.

According to Mashable:

Access to this personal information was accessible via Facebook’s privacy settings, with the Preview My Profile feature creating the loophole to access the private live chats of friends.

Facebook has had their fare share of issues this year, including a period when users e-mail addresses were exposed during a site update. Even politicians are all up in arms over the companies implementation of opt-in settings for their new Open Graph implementation.

Once you can use Facebook Chat again you can assume the issue has been corrected.
