PlayStation 4 Ad Campaign Promises ‘Greatness’ [Video]

PlayStation 4’s ad campaign promises “greatness.”

Continuing its tradition of ad campaigns that push the envelope, Sony has done it again, claiming that “greatness awaits.”

As if the Xbox One’s crushing defeat at E3 2013 wasn’t enough, PlayStation 4 has landed an ad that turns out as epic as you could imagine, throwing every video game character you could imagine into a thrilling smorgasbord of ideas all in one. If you like, you can even head over to the PlayStation YouTube channel to interact with the video and get the full experience.

The PlayStation 4 ad campaign begins with what appears to be the aftermath of a car accident, the radiator still steaming as we approach. It’s a recent model sedan with its driver side door wide open and someone sitting in it. It isn’t very impressive at the beginning, but it gets better. It gets a lot better.

The person sitting in the car plays cat’s cradle as we pan around the car and see the person is very much alive and decked out in a purple suit and shiny shoes. His hair is neatly trimmed. He immediately says:

Who are you not to be great? You, with the imagination of a brilliant child and the powers of an ancient god, who are you to be ordinary? You, who can pursue life or raise the dead. Who are you to be afraid? You who can serve as judge and jury while hoarding infinite lives. Who are you to be a slave to the past? You who can travel time like the oceans and rewrite history with a single word! Who are you to be anonymous? You, whose name should be spoken in reverent tones or in terrified whispers! Who are you to deny greatness? You deny it to yourself, you deny it to the entire world! Oh, we will not be denied.”

Along the way as he is walking toward the camera, we see buildings collapsing and wanton destruction as various game characters follow him, including Aiden Pearce of Watch Dogs, and some woman wearing a t-shirt with the Call of Duty: Ghosts logo on it. Further on, we joins a massive gathering as he swats something into the sky and faces the aliens from Saints Row 4. He walks by Edward Kenway from Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag as the man fights pirates.

What do you think of the PlayStation 4 ad campaign promising that “greatness awaits”?
