Mom Kills Autistic Son With Kitchen Knife

An Illinois mom is in custody for allegedly stabbing her severely autistic son to death.

Dorothy Spourdalakis said that her son’s condition kept getting worse and that she just wanted to put him out of his misery. The 50-year-old allegedly had family friend Jolanta Agatha Skrodzka help her kill her son.

Spourdalakis first tried to give her son an overdose of sleeping pills. When that didn’t work, she stabbed him four times in the chest with a kitchen. Skrodzka even killed the family cat with the knife because they didn’t want him sent to the pound.

After they cleaned the knife and put it back in the butcher block, the two women attempted to kill themselves with sleeping pills.

The boy’s father found the two women in a semi-conscious state when he entered the home. He could not reach his ex-wife by phone, so he stopped by her apartment to see what was going on.

Spourdalakis and Skrodzka were taken to the hospital and charged with first-degree murder. They were released from the hospital on Tuesday and are now being held without bail.

“The murder was committed in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner,” Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Maureen O’Brien said.

River Grove Police Chief Rodger Loni said that he had been to Spourdalakis’ several times to help transport the autistic boy to medical appointments.

“He was big and strong and unwilling to go to the doctor,” he said. “We had to restrain and hold him down.”

DCFS spokesman Dave Clarkin admitted that he received an abuse allegation in January regarding the autistic boy. The agency offered to the family support services, but they were not accepted.

What do you think should happen to Spourdalakis and Skrodzka if they are found guilty? Do you believe they killed the 14-year-old boy in cold blood?
