Prince Harry Defended Gay Soldier From Bullying Says New Book

Lance Corporal James Wharton is to reveal in his memoir how Prince Harry defended him and his sexuality.

Homosexual and military issues have always been at the top of public debates, as shown by the story surrounding the Pentagon extending benefits to same-sex military spouses.

However, it has been a while since homophobia in the military has been discussed.

Out in the Army will tell readers how the Prince addressed the homophobic act and prevented any serious harm coming to the openly gay soldier.

The confrontation, which took place in 2008, involved six rival regiment soldiers who cornered Corporal James Wharton and threatened to “batter” him. For anyone unfamiliar with this British term, it means to beat someone up.

After the initial threat, Wharton sought out the Prince, who at that time was his commanding officer. Upon finding Prince Harry, he tearfully told him what had happened.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, the soldier had this to say about the event:

“I climbed into the turret and talked Harry through exactly what had happened. He had a complete look of bewilderment on his face.”

Furthermore, after hearing the awful story the Prince left the turret, they were occupying to go and confront the six homophobic soldiers personally.

Wharton continued:

“He climbed out of the tank and I poked my head out of the turret a few moments later to see him having a go.”

According to the soldier’s retelling of the event, Prince Harry didn’t hold back his feeling on the matter and even told the bullies to “Back the f**k off.”

This is a stark contrast to the Prince Harry we all saw singing happy birthday to Missy Franklin.

In addition to confronting the military bullies, Prince Harry briefed a senior officer about the entire story.

Prince Harry has always received praise for his military career.

Since his decision to enter the army, the Prince has been seen as an officer who has the utmost respect for his men.

Now that this extraordinary incident has become public knowledge, there seems even less doubt in peoples minds that the Prince is thoroughly devoted to the welfare of his troops.
