Town Officials Mail Dog Poop To Owners Who Don’t Clean It Up [Video]

A Spanish town recently mailed any dog poop they found to the owners who left it behind.

In an effort to cut down on canine lovers who don’t like cleaning up after their pets, the small town of Brunete, Spain sent a series loaded packages through the mail.

Here’s the setup: After receiving numerous complaints, the town council sent around two dozen volunteers onto the streets. When they discovered someone who didn’t clean up their dog’s poop, they engaged the individual in conversation.

After learning the breed and the pooch’s name, they were able to look up the owner’s personal information through records kept at town hall. The next step involved collecting the dog poop and dropping it into the mail.

“With the name of the dog and the breed it was possible to identify the owner from the registered pet database held in the town hall,” a council spokesperson explained.

Once the poop was collected, it was then placed inside a special container with the town hall’s insignia on it. The box was labeled “Lost Property” and was transported via courier to the offending dog owner’s house.

The campaign even has its own YouTube video, which quickly went viral after word of the service started to spread. Folks on Twitter have been using the hashtag #Cacaexpress in hopes that other towns will begin shipping dog poop in boxes back to the owners. These tweets often come with images of neglected canine crap.

The embedded clip also features a short segment in which thoughtless dog owners are chased around by a remote-controlled pile of poop. If that’s what it takes to get people to clean up after their pets, then so be it.

Brunete seems to be having some success; the town experienced a 70 percent drop in the amount of abandoned dog poop found on the streets since last February. Officials said 147 people received boxes when all was said and done.

What do you think about the Spanish town that mailed dog poop back to the owners who didn’t clean it up? Should other towns start using this method?
