‘Dark Souls 2’ Could Be Tougher Than Its Predecessor

Dark Souls 2 could be tougher than Dark Souls for several reasons.

The well-received action role-playing game Dark Souls followed the wanderings of an undead hero making a pilgrimage, and seeing as the game knew it was going to be action heavy, it didn’t bother bogging us down with story. It was just simple fun for those of us with a fetish for difficulty.

The sequel, Dark Souls 2, could be even harder, if the 12 minute demo has anything to say about it.

The enemies of Dark Souls 2 could make those of its predecessor look like infants, in that they may be smarter this time around. Several times in the demo, the player did some things that worked in the first game, and the enemies actually responded by punishing them for it. We could be in for another Dead Island style intelligence level, where you’ll actually have to think about what your opponents might do before you attack, if you want to minimize your death count.

The game may be more unpredictable, with sudden unavoidable deaths being more prevalent, helping to negate the outcry when developers said the game would be more accessible this time around.

Opening a door may mean needing to close the last one. Dark Souls 2 may need to be played through several times to access every location in the game, putting more of an emphasis on choosing your path carefully.

Dark Souls 2 will put more mind games on the player, increasing the horror level and making you wonder when the next attack could come. The environment itself could snap out at you.

You might have to trade your shield for your ability to see, as the darkness level will be even higher, making you less able to defend yourself on the fly, and leading to instant death.

Some creatures will crave vengeance to the point where you’re better off leaving them alone. They will hunt you down until only one of you is left alive.

It looks like the player may have their work cut out for them even more in Dark Souls 2, and for some, that’s just the way they like it.

What do you think of the changes making Dark Souls 2 even tougher than its predecessor?
