Police Dog Pays Respects To Fallen Officer

A sad photo of a police dog paying his last respects to officer Jason Ellis is currently being circulated around the internet.

According to the AZ Central, K9 officer Jason Ellis was killed this weekend while picking up debris on the Bluegrass Parkway in Kentucky. Ellis was reportedly hit with multiple shotgun blasts while he was standing next to his cruiser.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

The officer was laid to rest this weekend and his canine partner, Figo, was on hand to pay his final respects to the fallen officer. Figo worked with Ellis on several cases and Police Chief Rick McCubbin called him a “true partners.”

A photo of Figo paying his last respects to his partner was posted to Reddit where it quickly went viral.

One user writes:

“Dogs can actually smell when someone or something is dead and it gives them closure. Not sure if he can tell it’s him through the coffin, but he should.”

Ellis left behind his wife, Amy, and two sons. The Ellis family will have to move on without their father but the Huffington Post notes that they did just get a new dog. Figo was retired from service after the shooting and will now live with Ellis’ family.
