Female Israeli Soldiers Disciplined For Racy Facebook Photos

A group of female Israeli soldiers were disciplined for racy photos they posted to Facebook, according to an announcement by the Israeli military on Sunday.

The female soldiers apparently posted pictures of themselves in underwear and combat gear on the social media site. The incident is just the latest in a series where young Israeli soldiers have been reprimanded for their actions on social media sites.

An Israeli news site reported that the women reprimanded were new recruits stationed on a base in southern Israel.

The military released a statement about the incident, saying that the young women acted in a way that showed “unbecoming behavior” for Israeli soldiers. The statement added, “The commanding officers disciplined the soldiers as they saw fitting.”

The female Israeli soldiers posted one photo where the removed their fatigue uniforms to expose their underwear and back sides. Five female soldiers also posed in another photo dressed in helmets and some combat equipment, but nothing else. The faces of the soldiers, who appeared to be in a barracks room, were blurred out.

The Israeli military has punished soldiers several times in recent years for what they call improper postings on social media sites. A video was posted to YouTube in 2010 showing a male Israeli soldier dancing suggestively in front of a blindfolded Palestinian woman. Another incident showed a female Israeli soldier posing for a photo in front of Palestinian prisoners.

The two incidents resulted in the Israeli military banning soldiers from using social media sites while they were on base. It is not clear if that ban is still in effect.

Another Israeli soldier was punished earlier this year for writing and-Palestinian tweets and posting pictures to several social media sites showing himself posing naked with a gun.

It is unclear what the punishments were for the female Israeli soldiers who posted inappropriate pictures to Facebook.
