Firefox Preparing For A Major Redesign With Australis Theme

Is it time to start re-thinking the term ‘browser’? According to Mozilla’s VP of Firefox engineering, Jonathan Nightingale, the time to rethink the traditional internet browser is now.

Speaking to TechCrunch Nightingale reveals:

Maybe we shouldn’t even call it a browser anymore … ‘Browser’ is really an antiquated word. People don’t really browse all that much anymore.”

Instead Nightingale argues that “we now mostly use our browsers to access sophisticated web apps, web-based productivity tools and social networks.”

As Mozilla prepares for their major Firefox redesign, they are taking into account the way that their users take advantage of the browser. That means that the staff behind the redesign is looking to build the user experience around how most internet users take advantage of their browsers.

Users want simple, and that’s what Mozilla is aiming for with their new Australis theme. While the new theme for the browser seems to take after the Google Chrome browser with the rounded tabs and other similar features, TechCrunch reports that one of the big changes is going to be how users get to actually customize the browser to fit their individual needs. Users will now be able to add and remove more from Firefox with this new redesign, again, Mozilla is really pushing users to take advantage of creating their own experiences with their web browser.

Rethought Mozilla Firefox Browser

So when will the new Firefox redesign be made available? Firefox officials say the Australis theme will likely see the light of day before the end of the year. The staff behind the redesign hasn’t released the full version because they are trying to make sure that is it as user-friendly as possible.

Will you be downloading Australis with its totally rethought version of the Mozilla Firefox browser?
