111-Year-Old Fan Is Older Than The Yankees

In 1903, the New York Highlanders officially became the New York Yankees. At the time, Bernando LaPallo was already three-years-old. The 111-year-old fan has been watching his favorite baseball team for more than a century, and, this weekend, he got a chance to meet the latest generation of Yankee players throw the ball around at the new Yankee Stadium.

LaPallo has collected countless memories over the last 100 years.

He remembers meeting Babe Ruth when he first came to the team 93 years ago. He remembers going to games at Hilltop Park, the team’s first stadium. And he remembers going to opening day at the first Yankee Stadium in 1923.

The 111-year-old fan made a new memory this weekend when he visited the new Yankee Stadium, built in 2009, to meet the team’s latest generation of all-stars. According to MLB.com, LaPallo got to talk to Robinson Cano, Mark Teixeira, Derek Jeter and manager Joe Girardi about the Yankees’ rich history.

LaPallo said: “This day has got me choked up … I never thought I would live to see a new Yankee Stadium when I lived before the first one. I never thought about it.”

In addition to being a 111-year-old baseball fan, LaPallo is also a World War II veteran, a massage therapist, a hotel manager, and an author. LaPallo published his first book, Age Less Live More, in 2007 and will soon be releasing his second book, Beyond 100 – How To Live Well Into Your Second Century.
