James Dean Relationship Biopic In The Works

Actor James Dean has been one of Hollywood’s main mythical creatures since his death in 1955 following an automobile accident. Critics and fans alike have gone on to analyze his life and body of work, because of how brief it was.

It’s reported by The Wrap that A Most Wanted Man director Anton Corbijn is on his way to directing a film about James Dean. The title of the James Dean film will be called Life, and the script is penned by Candy’s Luke Davies. Unlike the 2001 TNT movie biopic James Dean, this won’t focus on his full life as a performer, but will focus solely on his relationship with photographer Dennis Stock.

The relationship between the movie star and photographer started right before Dean became a huge star in East of Eden. The two traveled the country together and took photos for Life magazine, hence the title of the upcoming James Dean film.

The film sounds like it could be an interesting one, and we’ve certainly seen a fair share of biopics focus on a singular relationship rather than the span of a career. In order to capture an intimate portrait of another mythological actor, My Week With Marilyn documented the brief relationship between Marilyn Monroe and Colin Clark, during the time the actress worked on The Prince and the Showgirl. If executed in the same matter, Anton Corbijn could capture the same magic for Dean as Simon Curtis did with the Marilyn film.

So far the only person to portray James Dean was a then up and coming James Franco in 2001. While there’s no word on who the role will go to this time around, it will have to be someone who can capture Dean’s enigmatic essence on screen and in equal measure take a humanizing approach as well.

Who is the best fit for Anton’s James Dean flick? Sound off here.
