Tim Duncan Passes Wilt Chamberlain, Closes In On Magic Johnson For Double-Double Record

Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs are one game away from the NBA finals and the power forward is one step closer to Magic Johnson’s record for most double-doubles in the playoffs.

Duncan passed NBA great Wilt Chamberlain last night with his 16 points, 10 rebound performance and now has 144 post-season double-d0ubles. Duncan has one more than Chamberlain and now has just 13 more to go to catch Magic Johnson.

USA Today notes that Duncan has played in 203 playoff games since the start of his NBA career in 1997. He has made the playoffs in everyone of his 16 seasons and has had a double-double in about 75% of those games. Duncan and Spurs will likely advance to the finals (they currently lead the Grizzlies 3-0 in the Western Conference Finals) and Duncan will probably add a few more double-doubles to his total before the end of the year.

It won’t be possible for Duncan to surpass Magic this year but the star forward still has a few more years left in him. Duncan is currently in the first year of a three-year contract. He’s 37-years-old at the moment but he’s proven with his performance in the playoffs this year that age is just a number.

Of course, Duncan isn’t focused on the double-double record at the moment. The power forward and the San Antonio Spurs currently have their eyes on another NBA championship.

Do you think Tim Duncan will end his career with the most playoff double-doubles in Playoff history? Will the Spurs claim an NBA title this year?
