Sundance Favorite ‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’ Drops Trailer Featuring Casey Affleck

A few days ago we debuted an exclusive Ain’t Them Bodies Saints clip featuring its stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara. Now we get to see the stars in a full length trailer and the intensity is tenfold from the clip that hit the internet this week.

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is a drama rooted in a misunderstood crime. After a shooting that leaves an officer with a serious wound, Bob (Casey Affleck) in order to save his girl Ruth (Rooney Mara) takes the blame and heads to prison. Of course because of this he leaves behind his pregnant girlfriend with the promise that she would wait for him.

Fast forward to four years later and Bob breaks out so he can see Ruth and the child he’s never met before. It proves to be a hard thing to pull off, and as the trailer shows it’s a long, pulsating, dramatic surge of energy that drives the story forward as Bob goes to lengths to get back to his family that has seemingly moved on. The trailer also highlights what looks to be yet another intense performance from Ben Foster as well. Another highlight is the music featured in the, which sounds very similar to the orchestral arrangement Terrence Malick used in The Tree of Life.

While most trailers these days give the whole story away, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints seems to give enough detail to keep you interested and sets the tone early on without spoiling too much. Affleck’s quirky voice sets the hypnotic pulse of the trailer with a voice over, “I dreamed about you again last night. I hold your face in my mind. I think about your hair getting longer, think about your belly getting bigger. I think about our baby girl.”

There’s not a stone left unturned for Ain’t Them Bodies Saints trailer. From the voice over to the peppering of the story and details, this both looks and sounds like an exciting tale that has Oscar potential. It received great buzz at Sundance Film Festival and is now making a repeat performance at Cannes Film Festival. It arrives in theaters on August 16.
