Mariah Carey ‘American Idol’ Finale Lip-Synch Or Bad Edit Debate Rages

Those Mariah Carey lip-synching rumors just won’t go away. During the season 12 finale of American Idol on Thursday night, Carey stepped up to sing a greatest hits medley that included “Vision of Love,” “Make It Happen,” “My All,” “Hero,” “We Belong Togethe,r” and the new annoyingly titled “#Beautiful.”

And a lot of people are morally convinced that she didn’t sing it live.

The rumors were flying so fast and furiously that a Carey representative came forward to pinkie promise Entertainment Tonight reporters that Mariah Carey didn’t lip-synch. The unnamed rep even said that Carey sang extra hits in person to please the crowd.

However, a lot of people remain unconvinced, and the claws are coming out as observers themselves judge the $18 million American Idol judge’s performance.

Music blogger Lyndsey Parker didn’t hold anything back in her catty review:

“[S]he gave a performance on Thursday night’s Idol finale that seemed more appropriate for another talent show, RuPaul’s Drag Race — that is, she appeared to be lip-synching for her life — well, it was not a tour de force, dahling.”

Meow.

However, Parker did point out that 43-year-old Mariah Carey’s performance was filmed the day before, not live at the real American Idol finale.

Radar Online talked to a producer, who wanted to remain anonymous to protect his job. He acknowledged that people picked up a problem around 2:15 to 2:21 seconds into the tape, where Carey’s voice is out of synch with the rest of the audio:

“That’s the one spot I think could be the giveaway that she’s lip syncing. However, sometimes a slight delay in the audio sync to the video can also make someone look like they are lip syncing when they are not. It could just be a bad edit.”

The Inquisitr has posted the controversial video in question, so you’re welcome to check it out for yourself.

During the raging debate, Mariah Carey fans came out to defend the singer:

RuPaul had something to say about the Mariah Carey comparison:

Other American Idol observers are convinced that she did lip-synch:

Mariah Carey didn’t really address the scandal herself but she reminded us all why we watch.

For some people, the American Idol lip-synch scandal is a bit of a head-scratcher. Turn down the sound, check out the curves, and don’t worry about Mariah Carey’s alleged singing.
