‘Hatchet Hitchhiker’ Claims He Was Raped


The “Hatchet Hitchhiker” claimed he was raped in his last Facebook posting before his arrest for murder. Caleb “Kai” McGillvary was arrested and charged with the murder of 73-year-old Joseph Galfy, Jr.

McGillvary became an internet sensation after he was featured in a YouTube video. The so called Hatchet Hitchhiker claimed responsibility for saving the life of a man and two women who were being attacked in Fresno, California.

During an recorded interview with Fox News, McGillvary detailed how he beat the attacker with a hatchet. His unique personality, and interesting story-telling ability, captured the attention of millions of viewers.

McGillvary states that he hit the attacker in his head, splitting it open. He was questioned by police for his involvement but not arrested.

As reported by ABC News, the 24-year-old Hatchet Hitchhiker is now being charged with murder in the death of New Jersey attorney Joseph Galfy, Jr.

McGillvary and Galfy reportedly met in Times Square and proceeded to Galfy’s home. Police state that McGillvary stayed with Galfy for “at least two nights.”

Galfy’s bludgeoned body was discovered on Monday. Responding to a call for a welfare check, authorities found Galfy dead in his bedroom. An autopsy revealed that Galfy’s death was caused by blunt force trauma.

The Hatchet Hitchhiker claimed he was raped in a Facebook post before his arrest. McGillvary seemed terribly distressed:

“what would you do if you woke up with a groggy head, metallic taste in your mouth, in a strangers house … walked to the mirror … and started wretching [sic], realizing that someone had drugged, raped … what would you do?

As reported by USA Today, McGillvary was arrested in Philadelphia Thursday and is currently being held on $3 million bond.

The Hatchet Hitchhiker’s friends have set up a fund to help legal expenses. Terry Ratliff set up the fund on GoFundMe.com, stating that “Caleb “Kai” … is currently wanted for murder of a man that allegedly drugged and raped him.” Five people have donated funds amounting to $66.

Authorities have not specified the relationship or connection between McGillvary and Galfy. The only statement from the Hatchet Hitchhiker claims he was raped but did not identify his attacker. At this time, the rape and murder connection can only be assumed.
