Conan takes Team Coco helm, plans tour via Twitter

The internet rallied in force behind ousted Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien, bestowing the nickname “Coco” upon him and mounting an impassioned campaign via the web in a show of support for the embattled popular late-night host.

Conan launched his Twitter account on February 24th, quickly amassing almost three-quarters of a million followers and drawing major attention to the one person he follows with the account. A tweet this morning announced Coco’s plans to come see everyone who supported him during his time of public need:

Hey Internet: I’m headed to your town on a half-assed comedy & music tour. Go to http://TeamCoco.com for tix. I repeat: It’s half-assed.

Within an hour, the site was “jammed” with traffic:

Alert! Teamcoco.com is jammed with too much traffic. If you can’t get on, go to http://ticketmaster.com to buy your tickets. See you soon.

The Team Coco site offers all the information you’ll need for the thirty dates of the “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour,” which starts April 12th in Oregon. The tour hits many major American cities and a few in Canada, winding up in Atlanta on June 14th.

Team Coco, do you plan to show up for “a night of music, comedy, hugging and the occasional awkward silence” before Coco makes his inevitable return to television? Let us know in the comments. (If you can’t get on to the site, try the “I’m With Coco” Facebook fan page.)
