South Korea Begins Testing “Recharging Roads”
The University of California a while back invented recharging roads, a technology that allows vehicles to suck up energy from the ground. Now South Korea has adopted the technology and they are currently testing it at a Seoul amusement park.
The technology, known as the Online Electric Vehicle System uses magnetic electrical charging stripes which are underground at four different areas in the parks 2.2km bus route, allows the bus to suck up power as it drives, creating instant power, while storing unused energy in the buses batteries system.
The move could allow South Korea to save on energy costs, while removing those ugly overhead lines that trams and some other vehicles require, if you’ve ever been to San Francisco you’ve seen the lines and they really do need to go! [Gizmodo via PhysOrg]

I think this is a great thing in recent technology development. Recently engineers at South Korea’s top-ranked KAIST university are meanwhile working on a novel prototype for an electric vehicle system: one that provides power on the go through induction strips laid into the roadway.
