Pentax 645D Gets 40MP, May Release Date…In Japan


Pentax today detailed specs for their soon to be released 645D, a DSLR with a Kodak manufactured 40MP lens. The unit uses a SAFOX IX+ autofocus system with 11 sensor points, a semi-rugged body and 70 seals to prevent damage by dust, water and low temperatures.

The camera also features the Pentax Real Image Engine, Dust Removal II system and a glass prism viewfinder. Users can also load two separate card slots that support SD and SDHC cards.

If you want a top notch lens, Pentax will also be offering their D-FA 645 55mm F2.8 AL lens to complement the cameras body. The design will also feature a rounded diapghragm.

The initial release date for Japan is May with a cost of ¥850,000 ($9,500 USD) for the body and ¥100,000 ($1,100) for the lens.
