Would-Be Pedophile Settles For His Peacock

DuPage County, IL – A Roselle man is facing a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge after authorities say he sexually abused his pet peacock to death.

The Daily Herald reports that 64-year-old David Beckmann was being investigated for another crime when they found his pet peacock, named Phyl, dead in his garage. He was booked at the DuPage County jail on separate misdemeanor charges for battery and attempted indecent solicitation of a child.

Both of those charges are from a case in Roselle, which involved a child between the ages of 13 and 17, according to court records.

Police were pretty slim on details, especially regarding the animal cruelty charge, only saying that Beckmann’s arrest is part of the case with the child. However, a spokesman with the state attorney’s office confirmed that Beckmann is accused specifically of sexually abusing the peacock.

NBC Chicago notes that Beckmann also faces three charges of harassment by telephone, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of marijuana possession in addition to the other charges.

He is currently in the DuPage County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

So let’s make sure we didn’t miss anything: David Beckmann attempts to solicit sex from a child between the ages of 13 and 17, nets himself an investigation from the police for it, makes a couple of nasty phone calls and physically assaults someone, then decides to take out all of his sexual frustration on poor Phyl, the peacock.

Then after apparently failing to do so or just in a fit of rage, kills Phyl and stuffs his body in the garage.

Man, poor Phyl.
