Leno Gas Station Prank Turns Couple Into Viral Sensations [Video]

Jay Leno gas station prank

Normally Jimmy Kimmel makes the viral rounds for his “Lie Witness News” segments, but late night host Jay Leno had a spot that gives Kimmel a run for his money. Leno’s gas station prank is going viral today, but not due to concept. The show stealers are the prank’s subjects, a black man with a golden signing voice, and his wife, dying of laughter in the car.

We’ll explain.

In Leno’s gas station prank, a fake news report plays at the pump while Will Sims pumps gas. Suddenly, the faux-anchor starts talking to Sims, who is singing to himself while his gas pumps.

Sims suddenly realizes the TV is talking to him, and the anchor offers to pay for his gas if he performs a song.

Sims, an “80s kid,” chooses Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” and delivers a beautiful rendition at the pump, in broad daylight, with other customers watching.

But Sims doesn’t care. He sings his heart out like no one is watching.

The viral nature of the clip comes from Sims’ wife, Monifa, who quickly realizes what is going on, and breaks down into robust laughter in the car. The faux-anchor notices she is laughing and asks if she wants to come out for a duet.

“Nah, I’ll leave her in there,” Sims says.

The faux-anchor then declares that Sims is “livin’ on a free tank of gas,” causing Sims to burst into an impromptu ad-libbed version of the Bon Jovi song, in which he sings that he’s “livin’ on a tank of gas.”

Then a random bystander walks in, wondering what the hell is going on. Later, Monifa gives “Sweet Dreams” a go, and she’s pretty damn good too!

It’s hilarious. Check out the Leno gas station prank below:

    Why do they have a handicap parking card hanging from their window? They don't look handicapped to me.

  6. Wehave Todobetter InChicago

    Why because they are walking. oh in your book handicap means not walking/talking being mute. Shut the fuck up DEVIL and go suck on your pitchfork!

    Awesome! I like how he joined in at the end of her song. She probably did a better rendetion than Annie Lennox.

    Since when does a handicap person have look? Get back under a rock. I m a cancer survivor and I am "handicapped" and I don't have a "look".

    Once I participated in a gas station prank which caused over $ 100,000.00 in damage and left several people with 3rd degree burns.

    for starters, "handicapped" parking tags are not some designation of medical problems, they are specifically to allow you to park in certain spots closer to entrances of your destination. that is ALL they are for. possible reasons this couple may have one include:
    1) it may not be their car, they may be doing a disabled friend or neighbor a favor by getting their gas for them;
    2) not all disabled people "look handicapped," whatever that means. i have a neurological disorder that causes my muscles to fail without warning; i have a "handicapped" parking tag to be able to park closer to where i am going so i don't end up in the ER just to get some milk. i don't look any different than i did before diagnosis, that doesn't mean i'm fine;
    3) people with surgically-repaired backs, knees, and other body parts that are part of your mobility are also eligible for the parking tags. i have had surgery on one knee and both feet, get shots in my back, have bad arthritis in both knees and one knee is about to be replaced, that is another reason i qualify for my tag. until you watch me walk, you don't know that, and some days i walk just fine for a little while;
    4) one of them might have a prosthetic leg – you don't know that. people don't go around acting like they are handicapped just because of that, most of the people i know with prosthetic legs prefer to try to act as "normal" as possible.
    the sheer fact of the matter is that there could be a million reasons they have that tag. i didn't even notice it, and i'm a person who has one. i don't particularly care who has one and who doesn't. i don't know other people's lives. when my mom was dying of cancer, she was on kidney dialysis, often had to go everywhere by wheelchair van or ambulance, but we had a tag for the car for when she was well enough for me to take her places. if you just saw her sitting in the car, because she wore beautiful wigs and did her makeup and didn't want to "look sick," you would have thought she had no problems, yet she was dying a slow and agonizing death.
    people like you are prejudiced against people with disabilities because you think you know what people with disabilities "look like." wish you knew what it "feels like" – then you might not be so quick to judge.

    This is the second time I've seen this posted… it was pretty cool… but I'm sticking with Charles Ramsey for "New singer of the week".

    ahaha! That's pretty good. Gotta appreciate the black guy falsetto voice at the end.

    Really fun idea and what a fun couple. What also makes it cool is Bon Jovi himself found out about it a few minutes ago while touring in South Africa and posted to this thread on YouTube

    Obama lies about a video, now Jay Leno. What is the deal?
