Pro Wrestler Threatens To Kill In Anti-Gay Tweets

In light of the Delaware Senate passing a gay marriage measure, professional wrestler Jay Briscoe shares his graphic, anti-gay thoughts on Twitter, resulting in criticism from several media outlets.

After the gay marriage measure’s passage, Briscoe tweeted: “The Delaware Senate passed a bill yesterday that allows same sex couples to get married. If that makes you happy, then congratulations!!!!!”

Well, that’s not so bad.

“… try and teach my kids that there’s nothing wrong with that and I’ll f—ing shoot you.”

Alright, that’s bad.

Though it’s normally our editorial practice to embed tweets so you can see them for yourselves, it appears as though Briscoe’s Twitter account has been deactivated, either after he was flagged for the tweets or of his own volition and due to heavy backlash.

His tweets were re-printed by Opposing Views and CageSideSeats, the latter of which opined that Briscoe’s comments “should not only embarrass ROH management, but also the whole wrestling industry.”

“It’s one thing to politely disagree with gay marriage, quite another to say that you would commit acts of violence on anyone who teaches your children that it’s OK,” writes Keith Harris.

Briscoe currently wrestles on the Ring of Honor circuit, far from the wide public exposure of companies like the WWE.

This isn’t the first time Briscoe has used Twitter to express his anti-gay views. Two years ago, he tweeted “Damn there’s a lot of fags out in New York today #WhatTheF–k.” It’s unclear whether ROH execs punished him for his comments, but since he just did it again, we doubt it.

What do you think of Jay Briscoe’s comments? Should celebrities at all levels of fame be more careful about what they say? Sound off!
