Tom Cruise Signs On For ‘Mission: Impossible 5’

Tom Cruise will be returning as agent Ethan Hunt at least one more time for Mission: Impossible 5.

Cruise starred in his first Mission: Impossible movie nearly two decades ago but the franchise isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. The last movie, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, is Cruise’s highest grossing movie with close to $700 million at the global box office.

The fourth installment of the series saw Jeremy Renner join the IMF which positioned him to take over the franchise when Cruise gets too old for climbing the Burj Khalifa. Renner, who took over the Bourne Identity from Matt Damon, will have to wait at least one more movie.

Cruise said: “I’ll make as many as people want to see, because they’re very challenging and so much fun to make. We’re already working on different images (and) talking conceptually.”

The rest of the cast hasn’t been confirmed yet but Renner, as well as Vingh Rames, is rumored to return alongside Cruise.

Deadline reports that writer-director Christopher McQuarrie, who has worked with Cruise on movies like Jack Reacher and Valkyrie, is the top choice to direct the new film. McQuarrie’s involvement hasn’t officially been announced yet.

Cruise has seen mixed results at the box office recently. He’s latest movie, Oblivion, has taken $75 million at the domestic box office and another $150 worldwide.
