‘Star Wars’: Disney And Electronic Arts Agree To Make Games

Star Wars games may be coming back with a new deal between Disney and EA Games.

The Force is with us, Star Wars game fans. Disney and Electronic Arts have made an exclusive deal which ultimately leads to us seeing more games about Skywalker and pals. Perhaps those games that we thought died with LucasArts’ studios may be getting finished after all?

The loss of LucasArts was a disturbance in the Force that Star Wars game fans everywhere felt, and our hearts sunk with the idea that we’d never play a new game where we got to be a badass with a black helmet again. Be strong, young padawan, for the games aren’t done yet. The new deal ensures that new games could be made for all of the consoles, online, tablets and mobile platforms.

LucasArts will still be around, but it won’t be publishing any more games. Electronic Arts is running with the ball now.

In the press release, co-president of Disney Interactive John Pleasants states, “This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Wars franchise for years to come. Collaborating with one of the world’s premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to our fans around the world.”

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau says:

“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe. Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”

Long story short, new Star Wars games are coming.

How do you feel about Disney and EA Games agreeing to make more Star Wars games?
