Google’s “Gears” Is Growing

Google is revving up its “Gears” open source project, with new features and new partners on-board.

Google has announced Gears will be integrated into MySpace’s mail service starting today. The site, according to the Official Google Blog, will be using the utility to add faster and simpler search and sort functions. Gears is also built in the latest WordPress release for better performance and offline management capabilities. Google Docs uses Gears for similar offline usage options.

The G-Team has also announced added Gears support for Firefox 3 and Safari as well as plans for eventual Opera integration. Gears was originally launched with IE and Firefox 2 support one year ago.
