Kenny Anderson has been fired from his coaching position following a recent DUI arrest.
The former professional basketball player was pulled over on Saturday in Pembroke Pines, Florida when he failed to signal while changing lanes.
After suspecting that Anderson was driving his vehicle while intoxicated, the 42-year-old coach took and ultimately failed a field sobriety test. His blood-alcohol level was reportedly .194, which is well above the state’s legal limit.
In addition to facing a DUI charge, Kenny Anderson was fired from his coaching position at David Posnack Jewish Day School. He was appointed to the position of head coach at the private school roughly two years ago.
This isn’t the first time the former New Jersey Nets player had been busted for something that happened behind the wheel. Shortly after he was appointed head coach in September of 2011, Anderson crashed his car into a pair of trees. He was later charged with fleeing the scene of an accident.
Danny Herz, the school’s athletic director, issued a statement regarding Anderson’s termination. The information was obtained by the folks at Gossip Extra.
“Kenny Anderson will not be returning as head basketball coach next season for the David Posnack Jewish Day School,” Herz explained. Neither the athletic director nor other school officials have commented further on the matter as of this writing.
Anderson’s termination from the basketball program probably won’t cause too many headaches for the school. Despite the coach’s best efforts, the former Nets player had trouble getting the squad back on its feet. The most recent season ended with a 1-14 record.
Kenny Anderson was booked into the county jail on Saturday following his arrest. He was later released on $50,000 bond.
