‘Ant Man’ Script To Get Rewrite

Ant Man may be getting its script rewritten.

Kevin Feige, who has had a hand in nearly every Marvel Comics film franchise in existence, says that the script for Ant Man may need to be rewritten to work within the continuity of the current Marvel Studios films including The Avengers and Iron Man 3. Every film released has been given importance in the canon as a whole, making it necessary for any new film to build on what has already been done.

Ant Man is a superhero whose regular name is Hank Pym, and whose ability includes shrinking to the size of an ant or growing to the size of a colossus, in which case he has been referred to as Giant Man. He teamed up with Wasp and eventually married her according to the comics. Now as Avengers 2 is underway, it is important that the story of Ant Man reflects what happened before, or risk the increased ire of endless Marvel fanboys in forums.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has said concerning Ant Man:

“Frankly, now we have to re-write it to put it a little bit more into the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] because it was written before it existed. We’ve talked about various names [to play the lead] over the past eight years but as you can imagine they keep changing as time goes by. But towards the end of this year, we’ll buckle down and start casting and start refining the script, which is great and which is very Edgar [Wright]. He has done a great job being incredibly true to the comics but is putting his own spin on it, so we’ll be drawing on multiple mythologies for this one.”

Speaking of rewrites, other franchises that may get rewritten include Ghost Rider, Punisher, Daredevil, and Blade. However, Kevin Feige doesn’t seem to indicate it’s likely or profitable to remake those movies. Ant Man is slated for a 2015 release.
