Dear Mother Video: Grateful Son Pays Off His Mom’s Mortgage

In the ultimate act of gratitude, a young man surprised his mother by handing her a check that completely paid off her mortgage.

According to Tadias magazine, YouTuber iProjectAtlas is a Canadian man of Ethiopian descent who decided to celebrate his birthday by “celebrating the woman who gave me life.”

In a heartwarming video, which was uploaded to YouTube on Monday, Atlas talks about his mom’s “unconditional love.”

“At one point in my life I hadn’t been home for two and half years, I hadn’t spoken to anyone or sent any emails,” he says in the video, which currently has over 1.3 million views. “I knocked at the door, she opened it, she said hi, she smiled and she just asked me what I wanted for dinner. No questions asked, no whys, nothing, she just accepted me.”

As a response to his mother’s sweeping kindness, Atlas, who reportedly makes $30,000 a year, said he went to the bank on his birthday, paid off her home, and then presented her with the information.

“Over time as she is getting older she is having a harder time keeping up with the bills so I have been saving for the last few years, have been getting ready and kind of wanted to do something for her.”

As for why he chose to carry out his special deed on his birthday, he explained:

“I realize birthdays are a tradition and that tradition dictates that one should celebrate their existence on the day on which they were born every year. However for me, my life has always been about what I can do for those around me… I wanted her to know shes appreciated now, not just with this gesture but with how I interact with her on day to day basis. To know I’ve even given an ounce of hope to someone else means more then I can say. I promised you your home would be 100% yours one day and I’m glad were here.”
