‘The Avengers’: Joss Whedon Teases Thanos For Third Film

Joss Whedon is teasing us with the idea of saving Thanos for the third film in The Avengers series.

The Avengers had a second after credits scene after the fakeout with the bunch of them just eating at the table. This second scene was a quick line from Thanos, apparently teasing us with the possibility of him being in Avengers 2. However, Joss Whedon has updated his plans and is teasing us with the idea that he’s saving Thanos for Avengers 3.

Joss Whedon said that the villain is just so powerful that he’s more fitting for an epic finale:

“Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful he is not someone you can just try out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him to be threading through the universe and to save the big finale for ‘the big finally’. He is definitely a part of what I have got going on. The thing about the Avengers is that they are very powerful but not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment.”

So it could be that Thanos is simply running everything behind the scenes for now, and Joss Whedon is waiting until the Avengers are more solidified as a team before having them take him on. If the Fantastic Four films had done that, and possibly made Galactus more than just a twister in space, we most likely wouldn’t be expecting a reboot after just two films.

Joss Whedon also mentioned the possibility of retiring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, but as of right now, the actor is still very much a major part of the franchise. He said:

“I am not the guy who should worry about him being replaced. He is Iron Man at this point. … The way he embodies it… I love working with him. (Iron Man 3 director)Shane (Black) captures it so perfectly in this movie. I want him to play it forever. The thing is that he has a flying metal suit. It is not like in those Charles Bronson or Roger Moore movies, when you are like ‘Dude, you can barely stand.’ He’s got some fight in him. At the same time, if Robert decides to hang it up, he has a perfectly good excuse.”

What do you think of Joss Whedon’s decision to possibly put off using Thanos in the Avengers films until Avengers 3?
