‘Bridget Jones 3’ Stalls, Fans May Have A ‘Long Wait’


Bridget Jones 3 appears to be having a bit of difficultly getting off the ground. According to Colin Firth, the project is currently “on ice.”

The actor openly discussed the project with no less than two publications in recent days. It would seem that everyone wants to know if the cast will reunite for another sequel.

When asked about the status of Bridget Jones 3 while promoting his film Arthur Newman, Firth told Reuters the project had stalled Although he admitted to teasing fans with the possibility of another movie, he said the sequel is currently “on ice.”

During his chat with the Chicago Sun-times, Colin Firth revealed that moviegoers could be facing a “long wait” for the next installment.

He explained:

“Unfortunately, it might be a bit of a long wait. I wouldn’t say that it’s completely dead in the water, but the way it’s going you might be seeing Bridget Jones’ granddaughter’s story being told by the time we get there,” the actor explained.

He added, “There is a joy of doing those movies that keeps hope alive. And the story is going in an interesting direction. I just wouldn’t say that the movie is imminent.”

Director Andrew Davies’ Bridget Jones’ Diary, an adaptation of Helen Fielding’s popular books, was released back in 2001. Renee Zellweger starred as a woman who decides to keep a diary while she searches for Mr. Right. Colin Firth and Hugh Grant star as the men vying for her affection.

The $25 million romantic comedy proved to be a huge success at the box office. By the time its theatrical run came to a close, the film had grossed a whopping $281 million worldwide.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason arrived three years later. Although the movie made considerably less money in the US, it still managed gross $262 million around the world.

Colin Firth fans can currently catch the actor in the romantic comedy Arthur Newman. The film opened in select theaters on April 26.
