‘The Bureau’ Revealed By 2K As Xcom Origin Story

The Bureau: Xcom Declassified has been unveiled as an origin story that will let everyone know how the mess that went on in the original game came to be.

There has been quite a bit of speculation leading up to today’s full unveiling with the first rumors about this game starting at 2K Marin pulled the original site offline.

After the original videos and links were pulled offline, 2K started leaking teasers that seemed to hint at what their next game would be and that it might be in Xcom universe without being a sequel. Now the company has unveiled the new game with a longer live action trailer as well as release dates and back story.

The Bureau: Xcom Declassified is set in 1962 at the height of the cold war. The story tells of an organization that was actually set up to fight against the communist threat. That organization ends up having to fight against an enemy it never conceived existed.

That enemy ends up being the same one that is featured in Enemy Unknown. The gamer will take on the role of special agent William Carter and will call the shots and fire off some shots while leading a squad of agents against the otherworldly threat.

Morgan Gray, creative director at 2K Marin said that this new game “tells the story of XCOM’s mysterious beginnings.” Gray added that “We’re expanding the universe with a declassified tale of government conspiracy and heroic cover-ups told through third-person tactical gameplay.”

The game is set to be released on August 20th in the United States and will go live across the pond about three days later.

The Bureau: Xcom Declassified will be offered on the Xbox 360, the Sony Playstation 3 and PC formats with no mention yet of any plans to launch the title on next generation consoles.
