Boston Bombers Basketball Team Changing Their Name

The Boston Bombers basketball team is changing their name following the recent marathon attacks.

The semi-pro women’s team reportedly received quite a few complaints from fans following the events at the Boston Marathon. It’s currently believed that the Bombers, which are a part of the Women’s Blue Chip League, will now be known as the Boston Bulldogs.

“We [were] planning on changing it once the Boston incident happened,” a spokesperson for the basketball team explained to the Daily Mail.

The Boston Bombers’ logo will also be changed as a result. The current version features a basketball that is also a bomb with a lit fuse. Since both the name and the logo are incredibly offensive in the wake of last week’s tragedy, the team is attempting to make the necessary changes.

The team has reportedly abandoned their official website. Reports indicate that their Twitter and Facebook accounts have already been deactivated.

Although the Boston Bombers basketball team is making some changes behind-the-scenes, the new name has not been revealed as of this writing. An announcement regarding the team’s name will reportedly be made at some point next week.

The Bombers aren’t the only ones making some changes following the tragedy at the Boston Marathon last week. Nike said it was pulling shirts with the slogan “Boston Massacre” from store shelves.

Company spokeswoman Mary Remuzzi said Nike was working around the clock to make sure the offensive items were removed from the racks. Although the shirt was designed specifically for New York Yankees fans, the T-shirts have since become incredibly insensitive.

“We conducted this process as quickly as possible and are confident the product has been removed from distribution,” Remuzzi said in a statement.

It’s currently unknown when the Boston Bombers basketball team will reveal their new name. It’s also unclear what the team will be called or what their logo will look like.
