The Paley Center for Media has locations in New York and Los Angeles. It’s a non-profit with a mission to lead the discussion about the cultural, creative, and social significance of television, radio, and emerging platforms for the professional community and media-interested public.
Paley Center panels about popular TV shows are fantastic. It’s a unique way to get a behind-the-scenes look at how cast members and producers interact when they’re not in character.
The first one I experienced was a conversation with the cast of Modern Family. There was a beautiful moment when the cast was taking audience questions. Three drama students were skipping homework to be there. Julie Bowen who plays Claire Dunphy invited the girls on stage where she signed a permission slip asking that the girls be excused for turning in the assignment late.
It was just a genuinely funny, unscripted moment. The girls read the note to the audience. Julie used the opportunity to point out that “math class sucks.”
If you miss a Live at the Paley Center event, several are available on Hulu to watch on demand.
At this evening’s event, the cast of Mad Men will answer questions from the audience and from Twitter using the hash tag #PaleyLiveNY.
Live streaming starts at around 7:15pm EDT.
