‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Test Reel Shot By Gus Van Sant

Director Gus Van Sant recently shot a test reel in a bid to direct the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation for Universal Pictures.

Fans of E.L. James’ erotic novel have been wondering who would end up directing and starring in the big-screen version of the steamy tale. Since a lot of filmmakers are probably interested in the job, Van Sant is hoping his test reel will separate him from the herd.

The Good Will Hunting director cast 23-year-old Magic Mike co-star Alex Pettyfer in the role of Christian Grey. Although details about the reel are few and far between, it’s being reported that Gus Van Sant filmed the sequence where Anastasia Steele loses her virginity.

It’s unclear who tackled the part of Anastasia in Van Sant’s Fifty Shades of Grey test reel. The source who informed The Wrap about the director’s project couldn’t identify which actress appeared in the sequence.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features have yet to comment on the test reel put together by Gus Van Sant. However, a representative explained that the companies did not ask the director to submit anything to them. Apparently Van Sant just really wants to land the gig.

The only thing confirmed about the Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation is that Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will produce the feature. Beyond that, everything else is up for speculation.

However, Gus Van Sant’s involvement with the feature wouldn’t be too far fetched. The filmmaker previously directed both The Promised Land and Milk for Focus Features. His relationship with the company could essentially help him get his foot in the proverbial door.

Regardless of who ends up directing and starring in the picture, the adaptation of James’ popular novel is sure to take the box office by storm when it finally arrives in theaters next year.

Do you think Gus Van Sant and Alex Pettyfer are the right for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie?
