‘The Wolverine’ Releases A Stronger Trailer In Japan [Video]

A much stronger trailer for The Wolverine has been released in Japan.

Although the clip you see embedded below doesn’t differ too greatly from the trailer released in the US not too long ago, the presentation is definitely a bit slower and much more atmospheric.

Instead of showcasing the film as a lightning-fast action picture that seemingly puts style over substance, the Wolverine trailer released in Japan shifts the focus to the characters.

Logan’s struggle is a bit more defined and well-developed in latest preview, and gives you the sense that director James Mangold knows precisely what he’s doing.

Mangold certainly knows how to put an action flick together. His 2007 western 3:10 to Yuma illustrates that fact perfectly. Even Knight and Day had its moments, though to a much lesser extent.

However, fans of Girl, Interrupted and Walk the Line know he’s also pretty good with character. This wasn’t fully evident in the Wolverine clip we got in North America.

Of course, the difference between the two trailers also showcases the power of editing. Since both trailers paint a slightly different pictures of what’s in store for moviegoers, only time will tell if The Wolverine is actually worth checking out.

Twentieth Century Fox provides the following synopsis:

“Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.”

The Wolveirne stars Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, and Brian Tee. Moviegoers can see for themselves if the flick is any good on July 26.
