Woman Sues Buddhist Monks Over Sex Tape

A Lowell, Massachusetts woman is suing five men, including several Buddhist monks, over a sex tape. Maya Man accuses the men of unlawfully distributing the film, which features her having sex with Venerable Nhem Kimteng, a Buddhist monk

The sex tape has reportedly been widely distributed throughout the Cambodian community. Despite expectations of celibacy, Venerable Nhem Kimteng and Maya had consensual sex at the Trairatanaram Temple, in North Chelmsford.

As reported by Daily Bulletin, Maya claims that the film was recorded and distributed without her knowledge or consent. James Boumil, who represents Maya, has stated that filming without consent is a violation of Massachusetts law.

The attorney contends that the filming of the encounter was “an extremely serious invasion of privacy.”

The Community of Khmer Buddhist Monks leadership has already faced criticism for a $10 million temple that is under construction. Numerous community members have demanded, and been denied, a financial audit of temple project.

The inclusion of the Buddhist monk in a sex tape only further divided the community. Numerous community members have expressed outrage over Venerable Nhem Kimteng’s behavior. They are concerned that his choices will reflect badly on the entire community.

A protest was organized during the Cambodian New Year’s celebration. Community members chanted and held up signs with the word “sex” crossed out. Several former community members joined the protest.

One of the former members, Rithy Uong, states that The Community of Khmer Buddhist Monks leadership is guilty of “one of the worst things a Buddhist can do.”

As reported by the Lowell Sun, Maya has sought a restraining order against Venerable Nhem Kimteng and others named in the lawsuit.

Additionally, she is seeking funding to find and destroy all remaining copies of the film, along with punitive damages. She states that has “has suffered in body and mind” as she has been shunned by numerous members of her community.

She and her attorney are suing the Buddhist monks over the sex tape as it has caused her loss of reputation and employment.
