‘Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection’ Confirmed For PS3, Arrives In June

The popular Metal Gear Solid franchise is taking an epic bow to close out its long run on the current generation of gaming consoles.

The previously rumored Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection has officially been confirmed, and will have you kicking yourself over your purchase of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Konami will release the comprehensive Playstation 3-exclusive collection of Metal Gear games in June.

A price hasn’t been announced yet, but the Metal Gear Solid: Legacy Collection will get youMetal Gear Solid, Metar Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition (which includes the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition.

Also included will be the two Metal Gear graphic novels by Ashley Wood.

Curiously absent from the collection are Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. The former was a PSP exclusive, and takes place between Snake Eater and Peace Walker, so the absence of that title will perhaps be most disappointing for fans hoping for a complete collection on PS3.

The absence of The Twin Snakes is also somewhat curious. Originally released as a GameCube exclusive, Twin Snakes is a re-release of the original Metal Gear Solid with updated graphics, new music, and new voice-over work. Despite graphical improvements, that title is considered by this writer to be inferior to the original Metal Gear Solid, so there will be tears shed over its exclusion in this house.

Upcoming Metal Gear games include Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, which will continue the story of Big Boss after the events of Peace Walker. We’re still not really sure how those two games are connected except that they are connected, and they’ll presumably be next-gen. You are more than welcome to parse what ever you will from the trailer below.
