Louis Farrakhan’s Son Under Investigation In Illinois

Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan’s son is reportedly under investigation by an Illinois state law enforcement agency.

Mustapha Farrakhan is a part-time suburban Chicago police officer who occasionally uses an unmarked police car to assist his father with traffic control. While this isn’t a problem in and of itself, officials said that Mustapha hasn’t worked a shift for the department in nearly four years.

The Illinois Police Standards and Training Board was informed about Louis Farrakhan’s son by a Chicago Sun-Times reporter who was preparing to write an article about the situation.

The newspaper explained that Mustapha has been a police officer with the Harvey Police Department since 2006. He still drives an unmarked police car equipped with flashing lights despite the fact that he’s been absent from the department for several years.

Harvey Police Chief Denard Eaves said that Louis Farrakhan’s son is a “volunteer” police officer who often helps out with “community relations.” Eaves also stated that he stood behind Mustapha’s appointment.

While the police chief disclosed that Farrakhan was an badge-carrying officer with department, he declined to discuss Mustapha’s unmarked squad car or the security work he does for his father.

Illinois Police Standards and Training Board executive director Kevin McClain confirmed with The Associated Press that an investigation into Louis Farrakhan’s son is currently underway.

“We opened a preliminary investigation after the Sun-Times told us about their investigation,” he explained. McClain stopped short of stating whether or not Mustapha’s actions were illegal.

Although Eaves stated that Farrakhan’s son is a member of the Harvey Police Department, records show that he hasn’t worked very much over the years. After occasionally turning up for shifts in 2007, he reportedly worked around 118 hours in 2008. He hasn’t reported for duty since.

Louis Farrakhan, Mustapha Farrakhan, and the Nation of Islam have yet to respond to these reports as of this writing.
