Shots Fired At Denver Pot Rally, Several Supporters Taken To Local Hospital

Two men are wanted for questioning after allegedly firing several shots during a 4/20 pot rally in Denver’s Civic Center Park on Saturday. Thousands of rally attendees fled the scene, and three people were injured during the shooting.

According to police, a man and woman were both shot in the leg and are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.

A third victim was grazed by a bullet but was able to walk under their own strength to a local hospital.

Also injured was a dog that belonged to one of the victims. The pet was seen limping away from the scene of the gun shots.

Other injuries were sustained as several rally members were trampled while running away from the gunfire.

According to Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson, “Everybody in this world has a camera nowadays, so if anybody has any pictures that might assist us, we’d like those as well.

7News reporter Russell Haythorn said “four to five shots [were] fired” at approximately 5:02 on Saturday evening.

Police officers were already on scene for Colorado’s first legalized pot rally, and those officers were closely monitoring crowd security when the shooting occurred.

Marijuana is still technically illegal in Colorado; however, with the passing of a new state law, officers were told to look for suspicious activity and not to arrest pot smoking individuals. Security was on heightened alert following the Boston marathon bombings.

Police described the first shooter as a light complexioned black man, about 6 feet tall, and weighing about 180 pounds. At the time of the shooting, the man was wearing a gray hoodie, black pants, and a Carolina blue baseball cap.

The second person of interest is a black man who was wearing a checkered black and white shirt. No description has been given for the second man.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the shooters contact the local Sheriff’s office immediately.
