Idiotic Sorority Girls Host Homeless-Themed Party

Bloomington, IN – An Indiana University student has lifted the lid on the world of sorority parties at the college. Frankly, we’d rather it had stayed shut.

The tipster sent Jezebel news of (and depressing photos from) a homeless-themed sorority party, as hosted by Indiana University’s Kappa Delta chapter.

The pictures feature sorority girls with smudged dirt on their mugs and cardboard signs that read: “Why lie? It’s for BOOZE. Homeless need $ and prayers,” “Will Twerk…,” and, “Give me a nickel and I’ll tickle your pickle.” It is totes the most classy thing in, like, ever.

The Indiana insider writes:

“Just so you know, Bloomington, IN (home of IU) has a disproportionately high homeless population. They’re typically the target of a lot of s**t from students. They get treated pretty badly. It’s actually really sad – one of the places homeless people tend to hang out is right across from the most popular student bar in Bloomington, and on pretty much any given night, you can hear students loudly ridiculing the homeless population while they sip their drinks. Students will be out canning for money for their big national philanthropies, but when a homeless person asks for a quarter, they’ll tell him or her to get a job. The greek system here does do a lot of philanthropic work, but homelessness, which is one of the biggest local problems we have, and a problem that the greek system has the opportunity to really help, is completely ignored.”

Jezebel recently asked a number of Duke students why frat bros and sorority girls are drawn to racist and/or sexist theme parties. One senior told the blog that insensitive parties are set to continue because:

“[…] even intelligent and well-educated students lack the real life exposure to the hardships and pain that stigmatization brings.”

A message from the Kappa Delta chapter, posted on the group’s Facebook page, reads:

“We would like to extend our sincere apologies to those we have offended with the inappropriately themed event in which some of our chapter members participated. We recognize that our actions and language were demeaning to the individuals who make up the homeless population and offensive to those who serve as homeless advocates and many others. We are truly sorry. We will be working with our national office and local volunteers to provide sensitivity training and community service opportunities for our members.”

What do you make of Kappa Delta’s homeless-themed sorority party?
