Candice Glover American Idol Performance ‘One Of The Greatest’ [Video]

Candice Glover produced a knockout performance on Wednesday’s American Idol, with the show’s judges proclaiming it as “one of the greatest” in the show’s 12-year history.

23-year-old Glover sung The Cure’s “Lovesong,” as covered by British chanteuse Adele. And, by the end of the two-minute rendition (embedded below for your viewing pleasure), the Idol judges were falling over themselves to praise her.

“On behalf of all my judges let me say that was one of the greatest performances in the history of 12 years of American Idol,” gushed an ecstatic Randy Jackson. “Honestly, it’s one of the greatest performances on any talent show ever.”

Keith Urban was just as jubilant, telling a tearful Candice Glover, “It was crazy, one of those moments when all the stars line up and I agree with Randy that is one of the best performances in American Idol history.”

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey was wowed enough by Glover to give the 23-year-old from South Carolina a glitter shower.

The assessment of the judges was reflected online. Writing for The Hollywood Reporter, Michele Amabile Angermiller said:

“What Glover did on Wednesday night was nothing short of magic. Anyone who missed it — I command you to go to YouTube and watch it. Then replay it. Then bookmark it. It was THAT good. It was torch song, sexy, yearning, burning and just flat-out stunning. The electricity in the room was so tribal, that mid-song this weird, otherworldly audio-explosion pounded my television speakers.”

Meanwhile, Andrea Reiher at Zap2It wrote:

“Candice Glover stepped up to the plate and hit two towering home runs. She was easily the best this week.”

Candice Glover’s stunning performance seemed to overshadow those of other contestants. When Lazaro Arbos (above), the only remaining male in the contest, missed a key change in his rendition of “Close To You” by The Carpenters, the judges didn’t let him off the hook. Randy Jackson’s frank verdict cut straight to the chase:

“I am kind of speechless. You know I love you, the person, you are an amazing guy, your story inspires us all but all I can say is no, no, no. That was horrible. That was the worst performance you have ever had on the show.”

And Mariah Carey was in no mood to go easy on the ice cream scooper from Naples, Florida. She told him:

“No, Lazaro. I have been accused of being too nice, you the person we all understand and in terms of your struggle there is no denial you are beyond courageous. But at this stage in the competition there can’t be a key change and you stay in the old key. That is the end of the song.”

Rounding things off, Nicki Minaj bluntly told Arbo the competition was now a “girl’s race,” echoing her prediction from last month.

There were strong showings from Kree and Amber, though last night’s show was all about Candice Glover. If you missed her performance, you can view it below. Let us know in the comments if you think it ranks as “one of the greatest” Idol showings!
