Man Tries To Bite Off Ex-Girlfriend’s Toe, Gets Arrested

A man’s strange determination to bite off his ex-girlfriend’s toe landed him behind bars this week, according to authorities in New Mexico. The bizarre incident marks the third time the man has launched into a vicious toe-biting attack against the same woman.

Police arrested 27-year-old Daniel Anaya on Monday. He is accused of hunting down his ex-girlfriend and trying to bite off her big toe. The woman, who has not been identified, fled Sante Fe last month to escape Anaya after being wounded in two similar encounters.

According to the victim, Anaya is obsessed with feet and first attempted to bite off her big toe last year. During the violent attack, he reportedly managed to remove the woman’s entire toenail.

Despite the viciousness of the incident, the victim was denied an order of protection against Araya.

The woman was reportedly attacked again by Anaya in February. This time, her ex-boyfriend’s bite removed the top of her big toe all the way down to the bone.

The assault resulted in Anaya’s arrest and the victim was granted a restraining order. The victim also decided to relocate to Albuquerque in an effort to hide from the man.

On Monday, Anaya allegedly tracked the woman to her home and violently assaulted her. He is accused of forcing her to the ground and trying to bite off her big toe.

The attack escalated as Anaya proceeded to attack his ex-girlfriend’s foot with a cigar cutter. According to police, “being able to go after a toe with that type of a weapon would cause excruciating pain.”

The woman desperately tried to defend herself, clawing at Anaya’s eyes and slashing his face with a metal fork. Her efforts allowed her to escape and alert police.

Anaya was arrested later that night after seeking medical care for his facial injuries at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Sante Fe. He now faces several charges, including kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated stalking and assault.

According to Sante Fe Police spokesperson Celina Westervelt, the victim handled the situation to the best of her ability. “She tried to defend herself. She tried to call police,” Westervelt explained. “The victim in this case did everything right. And it’s unfortunate that this ended that way.”
