William Shatner hates gay people…well George Takei anyway

Star Trek captain and star of Boston Legal William Shatner has given another one of his legendary rambling interviews, although in this case, what he has to say has bite.

Shatner was asked specifically about not being invited to the all male wedding of Star Trek co-star George Takei, despite most of the still living members of Star Trek being invited (including a number of members taking prominent positions).

Shatner says in the interview of Takei that: “The poor man – there’s such a sickness there. It’s so patently obvious there’s a psychosis there,” and then goes on to talk about Takei “hiding his homosexuality” and “talk about festering, not living the truth of your life.” Shatner describes Takei’s homosexuality as a “terrible terrible secret.”

This article is ridiculous, headline-mongering nonsense. You clearly haven't watched the video, and have taken his words completely out of context. I usually enjoy inquisitr, but this article is just a mismatch from the video.

  2. Actually I watched the video…it's how I got the quotes. Shatner was just being his bizarre self as usual, but the nastiness to it says something else.

  3. Brad Altman had said there'd be no invitation, as reported by The Washington Blade of 20 June 2008: “The people that are going to be invited to our wedding ceremony are relatives and truly close personal friends. We're not trying to create a story with the William Shatner invitation. It's just going to be too many people at our wedding.”

Shatner never voiced any expectation of an invite, and his gracious response to media inquiry was reported by The New York Post of 4 June 2008: “No, we have not been in touch [with George Takei and his soon-to-be husband] but I wish the happy couple all the best. George deserves a moment of happiness.”

    !

  4. Perhaps the purpose is to demonstrate that William Shatner can indeed hit a “raw nerve” that gets widespread media buzz.

A&E's new talk show, “Shatner's Raw Nerve”, premieres on the Biography Channel in December (or sooner?), so there's precious little time to promote Shat's capability as a badass on the edge!

First of all being gay is not a sickness!
It ia the way we are. And for Mr.Shatner too emply otherwise,is simply wrong

  6. First off the “sickness” he was referring to was Takei's lingering hatred towards himself. He says Takei was hiding this self presumed “terrible secret, so HE thought” and then goes on to say “who cares, be gay, don't be gay, that's up to you….”

You have totally taken this out of context. Only in your mind this is a gay bashing interview.

I do find Shatner's tone condescending. If he was truly looking for reconciliation he could have just said “I don't know what I did to hurt him.” and left it at that. When you start say you pity the person, it does make you look like a douche.
