Mark Cuban Would Draft Brittney Griner, He Says

Mark Cuban said Brittney Griner could have a shot at the NBA — but she’d have to try out for a spot on the Dallas Mavericks’ summer team.

Mark Cuban says he’s already considered Brittney Griner, and, speaking last night before the Mavericks played the L.A. Lakers, Cuban explained:

“If she is the best on the board, I will take her … I’ve thought about it. I’ve thought about it already. Would I do it? Right now, I’d lean toward yes, just to see if she can do it.”

The Shark Tank star adds:

“You never know unless you give somebody a chance, and it’s not like the likelihood of any late-50s draft pick has a good chance of making it.”

While the prospect of a woman trying out for the NBA isn’t a first, it’s also extremely rare. Back in 1979, UCLA player Ann Meyers tried out for the Indiana Pacers.

Mark Cuban (editor’s note: we love this guy!) adds that he’d evaluate Brittney Griner like any other player and says:

“She’d still have to make the team … I’m not going to carry her just to carry her. I don’t think, anyways. But I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to giving her the opportunity.”

When it was posited that Griner’s presence would be great marketing, Cuban agreed. He commented:

“It would, wouldn’t it? See how she could do? That’d sell out a few games.”

Brittney Griner responded to Mark Cuban on Twitter, saying:

Do you think it’s super cool Mark Cuban is considering Brittney Griner?
