Katy Perry, John Mayer Split: ‘Coupling’ Is ‘Tricky

Katy Perry and John Mayer split for the second time — and the guitar playing singer-songwriter admitted to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that relationships are hard, man.

Katy Perry and John Mayer took up with one another sometime after her split from British comedian Russell Brand, and reconciled after at least one breakup.

Mayer is certainly seen as a ladies’ man of sorts in celeb circles, and even caught some significant heat for some disrespectful comments he made both about race and Jessica Simpson’s sexual grip on him in a Playboy article a few years back — at the time, Mayer said he didn’t think Simpson was his type, but added:

“There are people in the world who have the power to change our values. Have you ever been with a girl who made you want to quit the rest of your life? Did you ever say, “I want to quit my life and just [expletive] snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to [expletive] you, I would start selling all my [expletive] just to keep [expletive] you.”

Katy Perry and John Mayer avoided any such gossip scandals, but the pair still had their share of strife, Mayer admitted to DeGeneres. Mayer first said when Ellen asked about Katy Perry:

“It was a private relationship during, and it’s a private relationship still. I can understand asking the question based on some previous answers I have given, but I have finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other.”

And while John Mayer and Katy Perry are celebrities and vastly wealthy, the Your Body Is A Wonderland singer describes problems to which all people in relationships may likely relate:

“I’m on the same journey as everyone else. Coupling is a tricky thing.”

After the Katy Perry split, John Mayer is headed off to tour following a long break due to a vocal cord ailment.
